In the Community: Rite Aid store associates are very involved in helping in their hometowns. They volunteer to speak at local schools on poison prevention and the dangers of drug abuse, visit nursing homes to review prescriptions with residents, help at local food banks, and participate in walks for other charitable causes. Nationally, Rite Aid supports Children’s Miracle Network (CMN). By selling $1 Children’s Miracle Network Paper Miracle Balloons in their stores and hosting special event fundraisers, Rite Aid has raised more than $36 million for 118 children’s hospitals since 1994. The Rite Aid Foundation, whose mission is to help improve the lives of those who live and work in the communities where Rite Aid does business, was established in 2001.
About the Rite Aid Foundation: Rite Aid is involved in community activities in meaningful ways and committed to reflecting the diversity of each community they serve. The Rite Aid Foundation, founded in July 2001, is a not-for-profit foundation dedicated to helping people in the communities Rite Aid serves lead happier, healthier lives. They support specific programs of non-profit organizations that are classified and exempt from federal tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service Code. They limit funding to programs that focus on health and wellness in the communities in which Rite Aid operates. Grants are awarded for one year at a time, and no organization can receive a grant from the Foundation more than two years in a row. Organizations that receive two consecutive grants must wait 24 months to apply to the Foundation again. Because Rite Aid is unable to support each and every worthwhile program, they have established guidelines to help organizations better understand their priorities, procedures and funding limitations.
